Costa Caleta

Formerly Caleta De Fuste.

Caleta is a family friendly resort with a superb crescent shaped gently sloping sandy beach. Moreover, in recent years the resort has benefited from the construction of a new commercial centre including further shops, restaurants, a cinema and bowling alley, new hotels and enlarged beaches around the bay, thus providing something for all visitors.

All the amenities outlined below, are within an easy walk of the apartment – you can forget the car for a while.

A second golf course opened in March 2007 and is very, very good. Both courses are within 10 minutes drive of the house

You really do not need a car – but, there are a number of car rental companies based in Caleta should you wish to explore the island.

Fuerteventura , …..The Tranquil Island .

The Island retains an unhurried charm, a product of it’s endless, uncrowded golden sandy beaches, pretty, tranquil villages and welcoming people.

Blessed by the cooling winds from which the name derives, Fuerteventura has obvious appeal to water sport enthusiasts. For those seeking peace and quiet – there are over 150 beaches, many of which you can have to yourself, whilst those wishing to explore the second largest Canary Island will enjoy breathtaking views coupled with great value car hire!

Other places to visit on Fuerteventura

Corralejo , formerly a fishing village, now lively with plenty of shops and fantastic sand dunes. This is the biggest resort on the island, and well worth a visit. Currents are said to be strong so caution recommended in the sea.

El Cottillo , an unspoilt gem on the north side of the island. This charming and peaceful fishing village is dedicated to the virgin of good travel………….
Drive south and discover the wreck of the “American Star” which ran aground 8 years ago….

Baku Water Park
It’s on the north side of Corralajeo, easy enough to find. Worth a day out, but it’s not cheap. For Maxine, myself and our daughter Claudia, we paid €48 then had to pay another €2.50 each for sun beds. That said, we had a great day there. There are lockers so you can lock away valuables and enjoy the various water rides.

Oasis
Jungle Park
At La Lajita is a zoo with horse rides, parrot shows, camel safaris and a cactus garden. We visited for a second time in May 2007 – it has been expanded dramatically, and is worth a visit.

Markets
It’s in Caleta on a Saturday morning – and tends to wind down by lunch time. The same stalls are in Corralajeo on Monday and other resorts other days. It’s the usual market fun and games…… be ready to walk away from your bargain..

Jandia
Resort on South side of the Island (which tends to have more European visitors than Caleta). Really beautiful beach, although quite a long drive

Other Beaches
Whilst Caleta is nice and easily accessible, Jandia above is also great. Heading North there is a fantastic beach just before you get to Corralajeo. Turn right where you see the two hotels. There is ample parking. Sea is safe enough though much choppier than Caleta.
